Girls Leadership Institute
The Girls Leadership Institute inspires girls to be true to themselves. We teach the practices of emotional intelligence, assertive self-expression and healthy relationships, giving girls the skills and confidence to live as leaders. We work with girls, their families and educational communities through our camps, workshops and training programs.
For ten years the Girls Leadership Institute (GLI) has awakened thousands of girls to a life of authentic leadership. Co-founded by bestselling author and girl-expert Rachel Simmons, we are a national nonprofit organization providing transformational programs to girls, their parents, and their educational communities.
At GLI, we offer camps and workshops designed to teach girls the core practices of emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and assertive self-expression. Taught by professional, salaried instructors, all GLI programs use interactive lessons and theatre-based techniques to help girls connect with their emotions and practice the tools of building healthy, authentic relationships. The courses are age-appropriate and progressive, following girls developmental needs from grade school through high school.
GLI develops a relationship with girls and their families as early in the girls lives as possible, and we strengthen that relationship over the girls developing years in order to prevent the loss of voice that can accompany adolescence.
To further enhance the personal growth and development of girls, GLI offers workshops and training for the primary role models in girls lives: parents and educators. Through these programs, GLI can impact the language and culture in the home and school communities. GLI's Unique Approach: At GLI, we take a unique approach to facing the challenges of girlhood today. Rather than addressing the symptoms of girls' struggles (i.e. lack of interest in math, eating disorders, teen pregnancy, unhealthy relationships, depression, etc.), our programs primarily address the root causes of these behaviors. Our principal focus is girls internal leadership skills, which include:
- Recognizing and building healthy relationships
- Teaching empathy and increasing emotional intelligence
- Learning to acknowledge mistakes
- Accepting constructive criticism
- Approaching conflict as an opportunity for change
